We make decisions in farming all the time so what is there to learn? We think a lot. Decision making is a skill and too often we assume we make them in an informed, unbiased and logical way. But mostly we don’t.
Mixed farming systems are more complex than cropping or livestock operations alone and with this complexity is the need for an enhanced level of decision making. Aspects of personal preference, personality, risk, intuition and mental short cuts all influence the decisions we make.
This area of Grain and Graze 3 examines decision making in mixed farming, to give growers and advisors the knowledge, skills and techniques to make more informed and hopefully more appropriate decisions.
